Cadet Adventurous Training Survey Results

Survey GraphYou will recall that the Ulysses Trust conducted a survey into cadet Adventurous Training (AT) and the results of that survey are now available for download on our website.

In terms of outcomes, there are perhaps no surprises but it is important to understand the full picture.  The key themes to emerge were:

  • AT is valued by cadets and their units;
  • the support provided by the Ulysses Trust was welcomed but a number of units had not heard of the Charity;
  • the command chain was perceived as taking a disproportionately cautious approach to health and safety, and risk assessments when it comes to AT; and,
  • the barriers to undertaking AT were a lack of instructors and experienced leaders, a burdensome approvals process and affordability.

The report also contains some initial thoughts on what might be done to address the position.

As a direct result of the anonymous feedback that we have now received, we have shared our findings with the tri-Service Chain of Command and are in discussions with them about what can be done about the identified issues.  We are also undertaking a review to identify areas of change of our operations where appropriate.  These internal changes will be notified to you separately on the website.

We would like to thank all participants who took the time to answer the survey, and to offer our congratulations to Lt Tom Morton from 1st (NI) Bn ACF who was the lucky winner of the adventure travel kit.  Well done Tom, and thank you again to our sponsor, Intelligent Pelican!
