Dr Rod Stables is a leading heart surgeon and was appointed to the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in 2000.  A former Territorial Army officer, Rod has extensive adventurous training experience as a mountaineer, forming part of the original Darc Star expedition to attempt the first British winter ascent of Everest led by the Ulysses Trust founder, Phil Neame.

When asked about his new appointment, Rod stated “I am delighted to return to a new role with the UT, having been involved in its foundation and early years – more than two decades ago.  The trust has gone from strength to strength and plays an important role in support of our reserve forces and cadets.  The contribution of adventure training is as important as ever in the development of the individual, the team and as part of the overall ‘service experience’ “.

“Rod brings a great deal of valuable experience to our Board” said AVM Nick Kurth CBE, Chairman of the Ulysses Trust. “His appointment is part of our current strategy to strengthen the Board of Trustees in key areas of expertise.”
