Ulysses Trust Support For British Army 2014 Everest Attempt

800px-Everest_North_Face_toward_Base_Camp_Tibet_Luca_Galuzzi_2006From 26 Mar to 29 Jun 2014, four Reservists will be participating in an eight man British Army expedition to Mount Everest. Starting from China, the team plans to climb the north ridge of the mountain with the primary aim of placing least one member on its summit.

One of the Reservists, Flt Lt Ted Atkins RAFVR(T), has considerable mountain rescue experience and has summited Everest before.  Whilst the Reservists are personally contributing a significant amount towards the the £97,000 cost of their participation, the Ulysses Trust is pleased to be supporting this most worthy of expeditions to the tune of £8,000.

The expedition has a secondary aim of raising awareness of Mental Health issues within the veteran community – particularly with a view to encouraging those suffering in silence to come forward and register with Combat Stress and receive appropriate treatment.

Your donation to the Ulysses Trust will allow us to support many more expeditions like this and to inspire young people to be all they can be.  Thank you for your support.

Update – 17th March 2014:  Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside anyone’s control, this expedition has had to be postponed.  Another attempt will be made in 12 months’ time when the next Everest attempt window opens.  We will keep you informed of further progress as we are advised.
