25th Anniversary Appeal Expedition: Day 23

25-anniversary-expedition-day023-01Tyinstølen to Gjendebu. 32km, 8 1/4hrs. The good weather continues, it’s still cold but now there’s cloud cover so only -10C or so. I started just before dawn, heading out across the lake to pick up a pisted track that has been cut along the E side. This runs to Fondsbu, a big DNT hut that opens in ten days time. I’m thankful for the track which makes skiing easy, I can diagonal stride… for 15km… then the track finishes and I’m back to breaking trail over the pass to Gjendebu, but I’m already half way there! The light is flat, my legs feel heavy, I get into a thinking zone as the hours pass. I think of my Dad, and how much I miss him, and how he would have loved hearing about this journey… I let some of the sadness out, and it disappears into the whiteness around me. The big flat white… coffee will never be the same again
