25th Anniversary Appeal Expedition: Day 38

25-anniversary-expedition-day038Bellingstua to Verestua. 13 km 3 1/2hrs. Some days in the winter mountains are elusive when we try to capture them with words. No phrase or description does them justice… today was such a day. In the quiet morning light, casting long shadows across the glittering snow I leave the cabin. I have a short day planned so I take my time. I follow the summer path markers that peek their red painted tops above the snow and weave my way northwards through frost coated trees and rolling open meadows. The Swedish mountain ache on the distant horizon, elegant, timeless… Again I see no-one… until up ahead soundlessly I catch movement, linear, human… and see two dog-sled teams curving across the little lake below. I take photos. When they’re closer I wave, and they wave back. I smile, lit up from inside. Never alone. Marvelous, wondrous, uplifting nature… and I ski on. Memories to treasure for as long as my memory lasts… for as long as I last
