25th Anniversary Appeal Expedition: Day 72

25-anniversary-expedition-day072Kilpisjarvi rest and planning day. It’s over one hundred kms from here to my next resupply at Kautokeino, with only one cabin in between and a section where the snow is likely to be… troublesome. I wanted to be sure that my plan was as solid as possible before I launched into battle. So today, despite good weather, I’ve rested, sourced maps, bought food and spoken to locals about conditions. It is very likely I’ll encounter difficult deep sugar snow for an off track section coming up. This time unavoidable and hopefully I’ll be able to patiently work my way through. This photo is of my approach to Kilpisjarvi yesterday… speeding along the scooter super-highway to what felt like star fleet central command. The mountain dominating the skyline is the most famous mountain in Finnland I’m told… it’s called Saana and was historically considered sacred by the Sami people. Tomorrow I launch out early due east towards Kautokeino. See you on the other side…
