Chairman’s Fundraising Bike Ride: Training Blog #1

What did you get up to this weekend?

Our chairman Nick Kurth’s Saturday morning started at 06:50 with his bike ride training preparation: bike checked, fluid bottle loaded, energy bars in back pocket, bike computer on – satellites acquired, heart rate zone showing and ride start button pressed, sunnies on, foot clipped in and wheels roll at 0655. <Phew! It’s exhausting just reading through his checklist and he hasn’t even left the driveway yet!>

Nick is training for the Prudential Ride London – Surrey 100 which will take place on 4th August. It’s a sponsored bike ride to help raise funds for The Ulysses Trust’s Anniversary Appeal. Anyway, back on the road some 40+ miles later on the hottest day of the year so far, Nick completes his ride and rolls in to his Cycling Club HQ for a well earned post-ride coffee.

Nick said, ‘the heat was quite oppressive and I ran out of fluid, and slowed down. A puncture en route didn’t help! That said, I set a number of Personal Records on sections of the route – which was satisfying. I have only 36 days to the Ride London 100 event and I am determined to finish it and raise much needed funds for the Trust.’
