Chairman’s Fundraising Bike Ride: Training Blog #5

Our Chairman of Trustees, Air Vice-Marshal N J E Kurth CBE FRGS is back in the saddle to raise funds for The Ulysses Trust.

Nick completed the Prudential Ride London – Surrey 100 in 2018 to help raise funds for the Trust’s Anniversary Appeal. And he’s doing it all again this year! We asked him to keep a diary of his training in the build-up to the race.

Here’s his blog #5.

“Training last week was about fighting conflicting appointments, coupled with the very hot temperatures.  The net result has been less miles completed than I had hoped.  That said, I have entered into my tapering period, prior to the actual Ride London event on Sunday 4 August – 8 days away.  I needed to take my opportunities when I could and therefore went out at 0730 this Saturday morning … in the rain!  This is not too much of an issue (set against the notion of, ‘there is no bad weather just bad equipment!’)  I managed to get some miles in but needed to be back in time for my Cycling Club’s Road Race briefing  I gave my bike a strong talking to before I left, ‘no problems please as time is tight’.  Well, my bike was listening, thankfully.

“I am very grateful to all those who have sponsored me.  I am almost up to £1000.  So, please consider sponsoring me and help me get over the thousand pound mark for the Trust.  That amount would pay for 2 minor expeditions or one medium-sized expedition for the country’s young people.  The next time I post I will have hopefully completed the 100 miles ride from London, over the Surrey hills and back to London.  What could go wrong …?

Please do consider sponsoring the Chairman’s challenge to complete the Ride London – Surrey 100 on 4 August.
