The Nuffield Trust

The Ulysses Trust is delighted to be supported by The Nuffield Trust which aims to ‘promote the welfare and efficiency of the Forces of the Crown either by the provision of facilities for recreation or by any other means’.

The Nuffield Trust very kindly provides generous funding to enable The Ulysses Trust to support Reservist expeditions and we are extremely grateful for their continuing support which helps us to deliver our vision.

Here is a selection of just some of the expeditions that together with The Nuffield Trust, The Ulysses Trust has been able to support:

Dragon Mansing 2018 | 3RWELSH

Eleven members of 3rd Battalion the Royal Welsh took on the the Nepalese Himalayas. The Reservists faced multiple challenges whilst on the expedition, from individual fear of heights, to the importance of personal administration and fitness. As the days passed, the group gained more confidence in their ability to overcome the challenges they faced and the many obstacles they encountered along the trail. “It all looked so easy on paper as an itinerary……altitude made it all so much harder!”

Kabek Bugle Tiger | 6 RIFLES

In September 2018 a team from 6 RIFLES deployed to the Southern Caucasus to conduct a high-altitude Mountaineering expedition alongside the Georgian army. Their objective was summitting the renowned Mt Kazbek (5,047m) in Georgia. This celebrated peak was first climbed 150 years ago, in 1868, by a pair of British explorers. “It was fantastic to work together with our partners in the Georgian Army. Their spirit, hospitality and courage were truly inspiring. I look forward to working together with them again in the future.”

Canary Express 2018 | 75 Engineer Regiment

75 Engineer Regiment (including 2 novice sailors) set foot on-board a 47ft yacht to go sailing around the Canary Islands. The aim of the expedition was to enhance sailing and leadership skills through offshore sailing. Towards the end of their journey they received a May-Day call from an unknown yacht whose engine had failed. This encounter provided the crew with an opportunity to practice (and experience) the challenges that materialise when sailing.

Needless to say, we are tremendously appreciative of the significant contribution The Nuffield Trust has made and continues to make to The Ulysses Trust.

Thank you.
