The MacRobert Trust
The MacRobert Trust has been supporting The Ulysses Trust since November 2015 when they awarded us a three-year grant of £10,000 pa. The generosity of the MacRobert Trust has helped us to provide a significant contribution to at least three military Cadet adventurous training expeditions each year. These are known as “The MacRobert Expeditions”, with particular emphasis on inspiring Cadet participants from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Last year’s MacRobert expeditions were:
Stirling Venturer 2017 | TS Stirling
A new CCF (established under Cadet Expansion Scheme) at Tile Cross Academy, partnered with existing unit Training Ship Stirling; sent 11 cadets and three staff to join the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Army League’s ‘Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge’ outside Boston. Tile Cross Academy (a comprehensive school in NE Birmingham) is located in the second-most deprived constituency of the country. All 11 Cadets were in receipt of Free School Meals. Thanks to The MacRobert Trust we were able to provide a grant of £3,190 | 33% of the total costs.
Northumbria Swiss 2017 | Northumbrian ACF
Expedition Northumbrian Swiss 2017 provided 45 cadets, accompanied by 12 instructors, their first experience of alpine skiing. This unit is based in the bottom quartile of Index of Mean Deprivation. 17 cadets are in receipt of Free School Meals.
Thanks to The MacRobert Trust we were able to provide a grant of £4,990 | 11% of the total costs.
Operation Drakensberg Elephant 2017 | Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing, ATC
An ambitious expedition to Drakensburg Mountains, 27 cadets accompanied by 6 adult instructors. Most Cadets came from deprived wards in Inner City Birmingham.
Thanks to The MacRobert Trust we were able to provide a grant of £7,000 | 14% of the total costs.
Needless to say, we are tremendously grateful for the ongoing and significant contribution The MacRobert Trust has made to the Ulysses Trust.
